Using a DVB-T USB stick on SUSE Linux 10.0

A few days ago I received a neat little gadget: a Yakumo QuickStick DVB-T, which allows me to watch TV via the USB-2 port on my Thinkpad. Amazon sold it for 52 EUR, so I could not resist, after making sure that it was listed in the list of supported devices on the very informative LinuxTV Wiki pages. All what was left to be done for me was to download the firmware and putting it into /lib/firmware. The driver and firmware were loaded automatically when I plugged in the device:

Now I fired up the KDE video player Kaffeine 0.7.1 and configured it to scan for available channels. That's all there was to it! I am positively surprised.

Just had to comment:-) I recently bought a Cinergy T2, a dvb-t receiver that is connected via usb-2 as well ... and surprise surprise: It works like a charm ... the package even shows a small penguin saying: Yes, it supports Linux:-) All I can say: Thumbs up for dvb-t on linux.

Yes, the Cinergy T2 was also on my list, but I could not get it for a decent price (yet) - glad to hear that it works for you! LenZ

I'v just got myselfe a brandnew Thinkpad R52 and I was on the lookout for a TV tuner/DVB. The first thing i did whas to ask google

Guess if this page turnde up! Thanx, now i know what hardware to by!

Hi. Glad to read your report. I am the owner of an MSI MegaSky 580. It is amazingly like the Yakumo stick. Do you know what hardware is inside your stick? Mine is powered by a MT352 and a QT1010 chip. Could I use the Yakumo drivers? Maybe the MSI stick is one of the clones?

Hi Andreas, unfortunately I can't tell for sure, if the MSI stick would work with the same drivers. I guess it's a matter of trial and error - take a close look at /var/log/messages when you plug it in. Finding the correct firmware might be tricky - make sure to check the LinuxTV web site and mailing lists for hints. Bye, LenZ
